Replacing front bottom wishbone BMW M2 F87

Note:

If the wishbone is detached from the rear axle support, it is necessary after reinstallation to carry out a chassis / wheel alignment check.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove rear wheel.

Remove reinforcement strut.

Removal:

Release screws (1 and 3).

Remove wishbone.

Installation:

Note:

To avoid damaging the new wishbone during installation, the wheel carrier in must be placed in its design position.

For this purpose, the coil spring must be tensioned.

Insert lower spring cup 2 412 505 centrally into coil spring and turn to lowest winding.

Guide spindle 33 5 013 , 33 5 014 , 33 5 015 from below through the camber link and the lower spring cup 2 412 505.

Insert top spring cup 2 412 506 sideways into coil spring and turn to the uppermost winding.

Important!

Make sure spindle (hexagonal) is correctly seated in upper spring cup 2 412 506 !

Pull spindle 33 5 013 down.

Warning!

Danger of injury!

Make sure coil spring is correctly positioned in spring cups.

Important!

Centre special tools 2 412 505 , 2 412 506 , 33 5 013 , 33 5 014 , 33 5 015 to achieve the greatest possible contact surface with the coil spring.

Check installed position of the special tool 2 412 505 , 2 412 506 and 33 5 013 , 33 5 014 , 33 5 015 , and correct as needed.

Tighten coil spring using special tools 33 5 016 and 33 5 020 , gripping the spindle of the spring tensioner with special tool 33 5 017 .

Tension the coil spring so that the normal position can be set by lifting the wheel carrier.

Secure special tool 2 358 630 with wheel studs to drive flange.

Support the steering stub with special tool 2 358 630 and the workshop jack at the wheel hub.

Adjusting normal position:

Note:

To raise the wheel carrier, the spring absolutely must be tensioned. Do not move the wheel carrier to normal position against the spring force.

Push wheel carrier with workshop jack and special tool 2 358 630 up to dimension A.

Dimension A = middle of wheel hub to upper edge of wheel arch

Dimension A – F80 = 343 mm

Dimension A – F82, F83 = 363 mm

Important!

Observe installation position of wishbone! See figures.

Position the wishbone (1) on the rear axle support.

Part: Replace screw (2).

Screw in screw (2).

Do not yet tighten the screw (2).

Important!

Risk of damage to the wishbone around the screw connection between the wishbone and the rear axle support!

Do not pull down too strongly on the wishbone when pivoting in the wheel carrier.

Risk of damage to the painted surface of the brake caliper!

Swivel the wishbone (1) into the wheel carrier.

Part: Renew screw (1).

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 33 32 2AZ:

2AZ Front lower wishbone to wheel carrier
F80 / F82 / F83 / F87 M12 Renew screw. 100 Nm

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 33 32 1AZ:

1AZ Lower front wishbone to rear axle support
F80 / F82 / F83 / F87 M12 Renew screw. 100 Nm

Lower the workshop jack and place to one side.

Remove special tool 2 358 630 .

Check fitting of coil springs in spring pads (top and bottom), if necessary again align and relieve tension.

Remove special tools 2 412 505 , 2 412 506 and 33 5 013 , 33 5 014 , 33 5 015 .

Required follow-up work:

Install reinforcement strut .

Install rear wheel.

Carry out wheel alignment procedure.
