Removing and installing, renewing vibration damper on engine BMW N63

Special tools required:

  • 00 9 140
  • 11 3 460
  • 11 8 090
  • 11 9 453
  • 11 9 454

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove fan cowl

Remove A/C compressor drive belt

Remove alternator drive belt

Release circlip (1) with a suitable tool (2).

Remove the belt pulley (3).

Install retaining ring (1).

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 11 28 1AZ:

Type Thread Tightening specification Torque
1AZ Belt tensioner with deflection pulley to crankcase
N63 M10 40 Nm
2AZ Belt pulley to torsion vibration absorber
N63 M10 40 

Remove belt tensioner with deflecting element (2).

Secure special tool 11 8 090 with three screws (1) to vibration damper.

Secure special tool 11 8 090 with belt tensioner bolt (2) to timing case cover.

Tightening torque 11 28 1AZ.

Note:

A 3/4 inch tool is needed to release the central bolt.

Release central bolt on vibration damper.

Secure central bolt with special tool 00 9 140 or 11 3 460 .

Position special tool 11 3 460 on special tool 11 8 090 .

Adjust special tool 11 9 453 on special tool 11 9 454 using clamping screw to 0° on scale.

Tightening torque 11 23 1AZ:

Type Thread Tightening specification Torque
1AZ Hub to crankshaft (head surface oiled)
N63 M18x1.5 Replace screw
1. Jointing torque 100 Nm
2. Angle of rotation 60 °
3. Angle of rotation 60 °
4. Angle of rotation 60 °

Assemble engine.
