  • 36 1 335
  • 36 2 010

Attention!

The wheel is balanced electronically.

When fitting all four wheels (e.g. when changing from summer to winter wheels), check the tyre inflation pressure.

To avoid tyre damage, advise the customer to check the tyre pressures on a regular basis (see operating instructions).

Follow instructions on initializing Run Flat Indicator (RPA).

Observe the following procedure to prevent clamping error and imbalance:

Remove or install front or rear wheel Mini R50

Loosen the wheel studs.

The wheel is positioned such that the valve is pointing to the bottom.

If several wheels are removed simultaneously, mark each tyre with a piece of chalk to show the axle and side on which the corresponding wheel is fitted.

Mark the alignment of the wheel with respect to the wheel hub.

Mark the position of the lockable wheel bolt.

Loosen the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.

Attention!

Contact surfaces between:

brake disc and disc wheel

Brake disc and wheel hub must be free from oil and grease.

Remove or install front or rear wheel Mini R50

Remove dirt, grease residues and corrosion from contact surface with a drill and special tool 81 25 2 344 011.

Attention!

Do not operate special tool 81 25 2 344 011 with an impact screwdriver!

Note:

Degrease contact surface with universal cleaner, refer to BMW Parts Department.

The brake disc must be removed and cleaned if grease residue is found in the area of the bore holes for the wheel stud holes.

Remove or install front or rear wheel Mini R50

Remove dirt, grease residues and corrosion from contact surface using a drill and special tool 81 25 2 344 011.

Attention!

Do not operate special tool 81 25 2 344 011 with an impact screwdriver!

Note:

Degrease contact surface with universal cleaner, refer to BMW Parts Department.

Remove or install front or rear wheel Mini R50

Check firm fit of brake disc retaining screw (1).

Attention!

On no account must the mounting bolt (1) protrude over contact surface (2) between brake disc and disc wheel.

Front axle:

Tightening torque 34 11 1AZ:

Type Thread Tightening specification Torque
1AZ Brake disk to wheel hub (contact faces between brake disk and wheel hub clean and grease-free)
R50, R53, R52 Torx screw M10 x 13 Replace screws 27 Nm

Rear axle:

Tightening torque 34 21 1AZ:

Type Thread Tightening specification Torque
1AZ Brake disk to wheel hub (contact faces between brake disk and wheel hub clean and grease-free)
R50, R53, R52 Torx screw M10 x 13 Replace screws 27 Nm

Remove or install front or rear wheel Mini R50

Apply a thin coat of grease to wheel centring (1) in disc wheel.

Refer to BMW Operating Fluids, Main Group 36.

Remove or install front or rear wheel Mini R50

Note:

To release and tighten lockable wheel bolts, use a matching adapter from special tool 36 1 300 , 36 1 335 or 36 2 010.

Attention!

Under no circumstances use pneumatic or electric screwdrivers to screw in and tighten the wheel bolts.

Do not apply oil to new wheel bolts.

In the case of used wheel studs, apply an extremely thin coating of engine oil to the threads and tapers before reinstalling them.

Installation note:

Clean wheel bolts and check threads for damage, renew if necessary.

Renew corroded wheel bolts.

Remove or install front or rear wheel Mini R50

Attention!

The disc wheel must rest uniformly against the brake disc.

In the case of non-original MINI wheel bolts/rims it may be necessary to retighten the wheel bolts on account of setting properties (refer to manufacturer’s documents).

Fit wheel bolts and evenly tighten crosswise by hand in order to centre the disc wheel.

Use a calibrated torque wrench to evenly tighten wheel studs in a crosswise sequence.

Tightening torque 36 10 1AZ:

Type Thread Tightening specification Torque
1AZ Wheel bolts
R50, R53, R52 M12 / WAF 17 120 ± 10 Nm
R50, R53, R52 M14 / 17 A/F 140 ± 10 Nm

Attention!
